Mid Day Discussion – The Nation’s Infrastructure

In light of the recent flooding in Iowa, and problems with levys in places like Louisiana, and California – do you think Congress should take immediate action on a bill that would fund inspection and reconstruction, if necessary, of all levys in the U.S.?

I think an increased focus on infrastructure is called for. However, I don’t think anything could have been done to avoid the tragedy in the midwest as this is a flood without precedent. Perhaps the government ought to direct money away from wasteful social programs and toward something that actually does create economic stimulus… maintaining and expanding our highways, bridges, levees, etc.

I tend to agree. Some work needs to done and quickly. Those levys in northern California and Louisiana are one hundred-years-old. Iowa floods and their magnitude aside, I think its time for a refurb as well.
