Mid Day Discussion – David and Goliath, Iran is Defiant

Iran has launched several “test missiles” and shelled Northern Iraq in response to recent sabre rattling by the U.S. and Israel. Iran has also indicated that their “finger is on the trigger” if they are attacked by Israel or the U.S. Do you think the U.S. and/or Israel will be involved with Iran in warfare by the end of this year?

  1. Hi. I’m looking to build up incoming links for my blog. Would you like to exchange blogroll links with me? If yes, please visit: http://greatdebater.wordpress.com/2008/06/25/why-i-blog/ and leave your URL there. The purpose of my blog is to generate debate on anything and everything that matters.

  2. I didn’t see it in the CNN piece I’ll recheck but the Iranian involvement in the north of Iraq tends historically to be aimed at Kurd groups linked with a terrorist outfit from Iran. It’s kind of like what Turkey has been facing.
This is a topic I like to keep up on. It is sad that the West’s saber rattling begets what can honestly be termed Iran’s scimitar rattling.

  3. Alfie,

The shelling piece is actually on CNN’s home page. You can check it out there. They shelled the Kurds.

As far as the sabre rattling goes and what came first, the chicken or the egg, I must say that the Bush administration has done all it can to publicly needle Iran over the last four years – at least in the U.S. media. No argument that the Iranian regime is patently anti-West and has waged a nasty little PR campaign of their own, but the U.S. should think long and hard before we get involved in something like this. I am not convinced at all that Iraq is as stable as we’re being told for the long term. If that is the case, and we bomb Iran, what would it take for Iranian terrorist and regular militia to pour into Iraq and undo all of the fragile gains that have been made? If they wanted to, they could easily run through the Kurds and manufacture quite a bit of chaos in the north of Iraq.

Uh, actually, the Iranian regime isn’t patently anti-West. The only ones who are funding terror are the US against Iran, with their pet terror group Jundullah. This has been reported by ABC, UK Guardian, Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker and many others. All the claims about Iran are lies. Proof is right here.

  5. Stefan,

Ahmadinejad has ‘stirred the pot; in the media – no? “Israel will be “wiped off the map,” etc.
